Sacred Lamprey

This iconic eel is a revered food source for the original indigenous inhabitants of the Pacific NW and is a “Tribal Trust” species. It is also the favorite food of Bald Eagles in feeding their chicks. This species is anadromous meaning the are born in fresh water, and then venture out to sea and then return to fresh water again to spawn. It has seen a dramatic decline in numbers over the past 30 years.
