Lanternfish
This is one of my all time favorite prints of one of my VERY favorite fish. This large female (Males are typically 1/25th the size) she has made her life in the Bathypelagic zone out of the reach of light, 3000 to 13000 feet deep. Note the withered tail and fins, no longer necessary where there is not enough food available to waste time swimming, rather they drift and let their prey be lured to the bio luminescent light hanging from their exaggerated dorsal fin.
