King of the Salmon - Leading Them Home
This image is based on a Makah tribal legend of a deep sea blade fish leading the different species of Salmon home to their natal rivers. Historians believe this was due to the presence of these rare fish washing up on the shores of the straits of Juan de Fuca during the same Spring and Fall migration time as the Salmon.
I visited with the Makah leadership regarding the creation of this image and they encouraged me to continue to tell this traditional story through my art. Last year I traveled to their tribal headquarters and gifted them with my very first print of the image, which hangs in their council chambers.
