Whales Pectoral

This impression of a right dorsal fin, was taken from a juvenile whale that died of starvation and washed up on the beach at the south end of the Westwind spit. It is thought that the lack of zooplankton in the Gulf of Alaska attributed to climate change warming the waters there, is the cause behind the 2019 die off of more than 50 gray whales on the west coast of America. These whales feed during the summer months and then make the full round trip to Baja Mexico and back without eating again.
