Chinook Salmon in the Moonlight

This largest of all Salmon are born in freshwater rivers, grow accustomed to saltwater in estuaries, and then head out to the Pacific Ocean for 4 to 5 years, turning North and traveling to British Columbia and Alaska as they grow into powerful mature fish. They have magnetite in a stripe that runs down their bodies which allows them to connect to the earths electrical field, which they combine with a "homing" sense of smell to navigate back to their home river to spawn. While they are raised in hatcheries, as well as propagating themselves naturally in the wild, the future of this and all Salmon species resides in the resiliency of these wild native genes, making them important to protect.
