Lady Fern with Kirigami - 3D hand-cut paper

This is the harbinger of Spring. Lacy, delicate, the very essence of the return of the sun to NW forests. This specimen was collected in the Cascade Head Biosphere reserve one mile from the sea.

Original impression printed on Unryu black Mulberry paper then mounted to Arches 150 lb watercolor paper and I then made over 500 hand cut piercings to create this 3-D effect. Finished art was then mounted on a FSC hardwood panel with black lacquered sides.
